Yashica Mat 124G :: Three Photos

Fallen Leaves in the Pond Ice Oxford Street at Night Mom and Canela

11.02.19 – One of my great blog / photo sins of the last year is that I have not posted most of the photos I have taken. The three photos above from last November 2018 taken with a vintage Yashica Mat 124G loaded with Cinestill 800T film are a good example. I posted a few photos from this roll of 120 tungsten film here and there but not here here.

Today, I am resolving my forgetfulness by posting the three best photos from the Cinestill 800T taken in November 2018. The pond ice and my Mom holding her chihuahua were taken on the 8th or 9th of November 2018 in Bishop, California, and the blurred photo of the London double decker bus on Oxford Street was taken on November 24th of 2018.

I have been searching for a in good working order Twin Lens Reflex camera for sometime, of which the thift store Rollei was a fail when I found the Yashica on Etsy for a very reasonable price in early October 2018. Using a TLR is a very different way of shooting film and I was not necessarily fond of the results I got from the first two rolls. Since then, I have only shot one more roll of 120 film in the camera and I have been alternating between using the Sunny 16 rule and an external light meter, as I have more than a faint suspicion that this camera overexposes.

Anywhoo, the above are my three favorite shots from the Yashica TLR from 2018. And why am I posting these photos now? I put in a roll of 400 ISO something in the camera last winter (Jan or Feb 2019) and just found the camera in a box the other day, so I have been shooting with it this week to use the roll of film and see if my thoughts that it overexposes are true. Thus, one year later…

A year late, but better than never.

Napping Blog…

Napping Canela

Sun. 07.16.17 – Unfortunately, much like everyone’s favorite little Canela the Chihuahua, this blog fell asleep and has been napping since early May.

Life has been a bit too busy. Hopefully, this upcoming week will allow me to catch up somewhat, as I have been collecting links for the Sunday Tidbits for the last two months and they are a bit overflowing now.

Convict Lake Defrosting

Convict Lake Defrosting

Sun. 04.02.17 – Still at least three weeks before fishing season starts and these three gentlemen are jumping the gun a bit…

On another note, there were skiers who had hiked up Mt. Laurel, skied down, and then hiked back to the Convict Lake parking lot in their Ski Boots!!! Ski boots for hiking the long trail around the lake – brave humans!

Two Days Later, Canela Recovering in Style

Two Days Later, Canela Recovering in Style

Wed. 12.01.16 – Canela and my Mom came back to Huntington Beach today. Canela has a lot of staples, on her belly, on her back, and on her sides. She is currently recovering in style with a leopard print coat and tiger print blanket.

Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts on her behalf.

Canela back from Surgery, after being attacked by a Pit bull

Tues. 11.29.16 – My mom was walking Canela, her chihuahua, down the street from her cousin Lynn’s house in Palm Desert this morning when a pit bull jumped out of an open window of a contractor’s truck and attacked Canela. My mom was not able to stop the dog from attacking Canela and the pit but ripped her open. Luckily the contractor heard my mom’s screams, ran out and laid his whole body on his dog to get it to stop.

Canela was swiftly wrapped in a t-shirt with an ice pack and rushed off to an emergency vet, as intestines were coming out of a hole in her tummy, as well as bite marks on her back. She was out of surgery and ready to be taken home by 4:30pm.

The vet is positive that she should recover. When I asked my mom about it on the phone this evening she was still in high emotion and so I did not have a clear understanding if the pit but just ripped open Canela’s abdomen or if the intestines were perforated as well. Hopefully, Canela will not have an intestinal infection and will recover.

The whole thing is terribly upsetting. The dog owner at the time claimed he would pay the vet bill. Hopefully he will.

Readers of this blog post: If you choose to own a power breed or a pit bull breed of dog, please for the sake of the rest of us – have your dog fully trained, walked/ran daily for more than 45 minutes, and if you can’t be next to your dog and your dog is in public – please please please have it restrained.

I had a lovely little jerk of a 12 lb. Maltese dog for 12 1/2 years and I followed my above recommendations. If you have a dog and don’t have the time nor inclination to train, walk, and restrain your dog, please re-home it with someone who will. We all thank you – esp. small children and other small animals.
