Sun 11.13.16 – Late this afternoon, I drove down to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Station at the corner of Bolsa Chica Ave and Pacific Coast Highway to take photos of the Almost Super Moon as it rose in the late 4 o’clock hour. After all the photos were taken, I drove to the Huntington Cliffs parking lot at the top of Dog Beach to take photos of Mars, Venus, and Mercury in the last of the dusk. Afterwards, I walked Belle le Cane along the Cliffs. It was a lovely start to the evening.

Sun 09.27.15 – This evening just before sunset, I drove over to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands parking lot just off of Warner Ave and Pacific Coast Highway so that I could set up to take photos of the full lunar eclipse that occurred just after sunset and moonrise.
As you can see from my photos, there were bands of light clouds in the eastern sky and that the first part of the eclipse was during the initial phase of the partial eclipse (first photo) and then when the moon was coming into the full eclipse (second photo). I have a photo posted to flickr where the moon has been full eclipse for about 20 minutes when the photo was taken.
The above photos were taken by Ms. Jen with her Nikon D800 DSLR camera and a Nikon 85mm f/1.8D lens, using a tripod and a swiss arca release plate that I hate.

Sat 11.22.14 – Today I went over to Bolsa Chica Wetlands during low tide and had fun for over 40 minutes watching a Bird Party! at the water outflow pipes between the big wetland sections. Not only were the birds having a grand time of fishing for little fry and sardines, as well as the seagulls attempting to steal said fish from the terns while flying, but there were many photographers of various species and bird watchers. Thus it was not only fun to watch the antics of the birds, but also of the humans.

Thurs 05.02.13 – While all the other photographers out and about late this afternoon at Bolsa Chica Wetlands had DSLRs with Big Big Big prime lenses mounted (400mm+), I cheekily went to photowalk around the wetlands with my Nikon D800 with the Nikon 50mm 1.4G lens. The high resolution of the D800 plus the sharpness of the 50mm allows me to crop the photo and still get a good clear picture of the egret and the sunlight through it’s wings.
I am sure if I stopped traveling and started buying 400mm+ prime lenses, that I would have a clear photo of the mites on the egret’s wings, but I do have my priorities. ;o)
This great (white) egret was in the most lovely direct sunlight / backlit pond and then it took off in flight, off it went, but not before I took a few photos.
Sun 08.22.10 – Scruffy, Belle and I met up with Donna at the Nokia Beach House and then we all trundled down to Dog Beach for another walk on the beach with all the various dogs in Huntington. It as a lot of fun and Donna met a lovely pug.
