Dusk Tonight or The Almost Super Moon

The Moon that in 12 Hours Will Be Super and Full Bolsa Chica Wetlands at Dusk Triangle of Airplane, Venus, and Mercury - along with Emmy, Eva, and Catalina Island

Sun 11.13.16 – Late this afternoon, I drove down to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Station at the corner of Bolsa Chica Ave and Pacific Coast Highway to take photos of the Almost Super Moon as it rose in the late 4 o’clock hour. After all the photos were taken, I drove to the Huntington Cliffs parking lot at the top of Dog Beach to take photos of Mars, Venus, and Mercury in the last of the dusk. Afterwards, I walked Belle le Cane along the Cliffs. It was a lovely start to the evening.

Sat 11.22.14 – Today I went over to Bolsa Chica Wetlands during low tide and had fun for over 40 minutes watching a Bird Party! at the water outflow pipes between the big wetland sections. Not only were the birds having a grand time of fishing for little fry and sardines, as well as the seagulls attempting to steal said fish from the terns while flying, but there were many photographers of various species and bird watchers. Thus it was not only fun to watch the antics of the birds, but also of the humans.

Mon 08.19.13 – I have been turned around on my days since Saturday’s crazy jaunt from Tiki Oasis in San Diego up to Thomas’ graduation in Pasadena and have thought it was one day later than it was for the last two days. Today I thought it was Tuesday most of the day, even when all my technology was telling me it was Monday the 19th. Thinking it was Tuesday, August 20th the evening of the full moon, I dragged my Mom out for a walk just before sunset to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands, which has a great open view of the east and south for risings of the sun (not that I go see that much), the moon, and any other planet or star on the epliptic.
But the moon rose at least 40 minutes before the sun set, and not even that clued me into the fact that it was the Day Before for Full Moon. Silly me. But here are two of my photos of the nearly full moon taken from the walk around the wetlands, one taken with the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the other with the Nokia 808 PureView.

Great (White) Egret Taking Off

Great Egret taking off in flight at Bolsa Chica Wetlands

Photo taken at Bolsa Chica Wetlands by Ms. Jen with her Nikon D800.

Thurs 05.02.13 – While all the other photographers out and about late this afternoon at Bolsa Chica Wetlands had DSLRs with Big Big Big prime lenses mounted (400mm+), I cheekily went to photowalk around the wetlands with my Nikon D800 with the Nikon 50mm 1.4G lens. The high resolution of the D800 plus the sharpness of the 50mm allows me to crop the photo and still get a good clear picture of the egret and the sunlight through it’s wings.
I am sure if I stopped traveling and started buying 400mm+ prime lenses, that I would have a clear photo of the mites on the egret’s wings, but I do have my priorities. ;o)
This great (white) egret was in the most lovely direct sunlight / backlit pond and then it took off in flight, off it went, but not before I took a few photos.
